This sermon, for the Second Sunday of Lent, is based on the Revised Common Lectionary gospel text: Mark 8: 31-38. In this text, Jesus teaches his disciples that he must suffer, die, and be resurrected on the third day. When Peter rebukes him, Jesus responds with these cross words: “Get behind me, Satan!” What does he mean by this? What could this difficult text mean for us today?
Other texts for this Sunday’s lectionary include: Genesis 17: 1-7, 15-16; Psalm 22: 23-31; and Romans 4: 13-25. For the full lectionary texts, click here.
